In his new position, Dr. Stephen Cohen is leading the way for improved surgical care for those who have served our great country. Dr. Cohen has joined the surgical team at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. Furthermore, Dr. Cohen will join the faculty as a full-time colon and rectal surgeon to help teach, train, and educate the young physicians who comprise the backbone of the VA organization. Dr. Stephen Cohen was the first Board certified colon and rectal surgeon for the southern crescent area in Atlanta, Georgia. Many of his patients traveled long distances to receive his high quality care, due to his unique ability to put patients and family at ease during difficult and often stressful times. Dr. Cohen is an innovator, pioneer, and pacesetter of emerging, developing, and innovative colorectal techniques. He is active in teaching, educating, and collaborating with physicians both domestically and internationally, in which his passion is advocating for advances in colorectal diagnosis and treatment, promoting quality access, and maintaining affordability in the healthcare debate. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Cohen has advanced his leadership skills by earning an MBA degree. Because of his current life-style change, Dr. Cohen is passionate about educating and teaching, in addition to, promoting nutrition as a mainstay for a healthy way of living. In fact, Dr. Cohen is a two-time Ironman triathlon finisher and is still very active. Dr. Cohen has partnered with medical industry for the past 25 years to educate, teach, and promote innovative technology that adds value for patients, physicians, and the institution. Furthermore, as a leader in the field of colon and rectal surgery, Dr. Cohen prides himself on keeping abreast about evidence-based medicine, and is a consultant for many medical-legal and peer-review cases that require his particular skills for a fair and just assessment.

Stephen L Barrett, DPM, FACFAS, is board certified in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics and Primary Podiatric Medicine. He is an adjunct professor at Midwestern University College of Health Sciences, Podiatric Medicine Program. He is the director of the Barrett Foot and Ankle Centers in Houston, Texas and Phoenix, Az. Dr. Barrett is a U.S. patent holder for the development of two endoscopic surgical procedures: endoscopic plantar fasciotomy (EPF) and endoscopic decompression of intermetatarsal nerve (EDIN). He has trained more than 5,000 surgeons throughout the world in these techniques, and his EPF technique is featured in Campbell’s Operative Orthopedics. He is a contributing editor for the Journal of the American Podiatric Medical Association and serves on the editorial board of Podiatry Today. He is active in clinical research and teaching and in 2009 he performed the first diabetic peripheral nerve decompression in Barcelona, Spain on closed circuit television for 74 of Europe’s top surgeons, neurologists, and endocrinologists. He has published 29 articles in peer-reviewed medical journals, authored chapters in medical textbooks, and co-authored a textbook on the interpretation of neurosensory testing.

Ronald E Delanois, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who has more than 20 years of experience with complex hip, knee and shoulder reconstructive surgery. He is the division director of the Center for Joint Preservation and Replacement (CJPR) and also the director of the CJPR Fellowship Program. His emphasis is on diagnostic, arthroscopic and joint preserving procedures for the hip, knee and shoulder. He served 24 years in the United States Air Force; for eight years he was the division head of the Adult Reconstructive Service at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. His emphasis is on acetabular and pelvic surgery but also on articular fracture and joint preserving procedures for the hip. Professor Arnez studied medicine and became MD in Ljubljana (Slovenia) in 1976, earned his PhD in Novi Sad (ex-Yugoslavia) in 1989. In 1977 he was invited by Marko Godina to work at the University Department for Plastic Surgery and Burns under professor Zdravic. He became specialist in general surgery in 1983 and in plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgery in 1993. In 1994 he became full professor of surgery at the Medical faculty of the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia). From 1977 to 2007 he worked at the University Medical Centre in Ljubljana (Slovenija) as consultant plastic surgeon, Director of the University department for Plastic Surgery and burns, Director of University Department of Surgery and finally as Medical Director of the University Medical Centre in Ljubljana. Currently professor Arnez works as full Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Medical Faculty of University of Trieste (Italy), Director of Plastic Surgery at Cattinera University Hospital (Trieste, Italy) and Director of School of Specialization in Plastic Surgery at University of Trieste (Italy). Giovanni Vozzi was graduated in Electronic Engineering in 1998 at the University of Pisa. In 2002 he got the PhD in Bioengineering at Polytechnical of Milan. From 2002 to 2006 he was Post-Doc working on development of microfabrication systems and on the realization and characterization of polymeric structures for application in the drug controlled release and in Tissue Engineering at research center “E. Piaggio of University of Pisa and at IMCB of CNR in Pisa. From 29/12/2014 at present he is associate professor in Bioengineering. In 30th March 2017, he has obtained national qualification as Full Professor in Bioengineering. He acts as supervisors of PhD students in Materials Engineering and Biomedical Engineering and coordinates the work of several undergraduate students and graduate fellows. He is member of Board of Directors of International Society of Biofabrication, of which he was founder, of IEEE and Of National Group of Bioengineering.

Hiroshi Kawaguchi graduated from the University of Tokyo, and began my career as an orthopaedic surgeon in 1985. Hiroshi Kawaguchi began as a researcher in the laboratory of Dr. Lawrence Raiszat the University of Connecticut in 1991.There Hiroshi Kawaguchi decided his life’s work would be on “disease science”, i.e. preclinical translational research leading directly to the treatment of skeletal disorders: osteoporosis, bone fracture, periprosthetic osteolysis, ossification of spinal ligaments, and osteoarthritis. Since then, he had a career as a “surgeon scientist” in both laboratory and clinical aspects of these disorders, publishing 298 peer-reviewed original articles (total impact factor: 1,502) in prestigious scientific journals such as Nat Med, Nat Mater, Nature, Science, JCI, Gene Dev, JCB, PNAS, Dev Cell, JBC, and JBMR. Importantly, some of these reported efforts have already led to clinical use, for example, a recombinant agent for fracture healing and a novel artificial joint with longevity. Hiroshi Kawaguchi have been an ORS member since 1995, and received the 2009 Kappa Delta Award, also awarded the 2006 Frank Stinch field Award of the Hip Society, the 2006 Basic Science Award of OARSI, and the 2011 Lawrence Raisz Award of ASBMR. Hiroshi Kawaguchi have also devoted to the education of young researchers. In fact, members of his group have been awarded the ASBMR Young Investigator Award each of the l7 years since l998, and three of them the President’s Book Award during that period (25 awardees in total).
