Abstract

In this research article, its authors present the results and analysis of their research, thematically devoted to the definition and volume of available collecting tools (philately, philocarty, phaleristics and numismatics) dedicated to such important and popular clinical medical disciplines as traumatology and orthopaedics, their history and heroes, both scientists and practicing doctors. In total, this research article presents 143 collection materials, screenshot copies: of which 72 are philatelic; 14 philocarty; 27 phaleristic; 30 numismatic.

Aim of the Article

The purpose of the conducted research and the article written based on its results is to present the volume and content of the obtained collection materials of various orientations (philatelic, phaleristic, philocartic and numismatic) thematically representing both traumatology and orthopaedics, their history and their heroes, both scientists and practicing doctors.

Research Hypothesis

During the preparatory work for this study, its author came up with a working hypothesis, the essence of which was that, presumably, there could exist a fairly large number of the most diverse collection materials, philatelic, philocartic, phaleristic, numismatic, thematically dedicated to both traumatology and orthopaedics, their history and heroes (scientists and practicing doctors).

Introduction

The study of any issues related to medical science and all its areas, history, biographies, both scientists and practitioners, in the author’s opinion, is always relevant and in demand. In this research article, its author presents the results of his research and their analysis, dedicated to both traumatology and orthopaedics, their history and heroes, in an unconventional way, in the reflection of such means of collecting as philately, philocarty, phaleristics and numismatics, in all their species diversity. In fairness, it should be noted that this is not the first time the author has addressed this topic. In this regard, the author tried to avoid, as much as possible, both textual and illustrative repetitions [1].

Method and Materials of the Study

In conducting this research and subsequent writing of his research article based on the results obtained, the author used such research methods as: literary-critical analysis of available, both domestic and foreign materials on the issue he was researching. For this purpose, professional medical sites on the history of medicine, traumatology and orthopaedics were selected, as well as Internet pages and sites of collectors, philatelists, phalerists and numismatists specializing in medical topics and in traumatology and orthopaedics, in particular. All illustrative materials obtained by the author as a result of his search work were transformed, using special computer programs, into their screenshot copies, both colour and black and white.

Results of the Study and Discussion

At the beginning of my story, I would like to present phaleristic materials (thematic, commemorative badges and chest badges), both foreign and from the USSR period, thematically dedicated to such medical areas as traumatology and orthopaedics. These materials are presented in thematic Figure 1 [2-8]. Further, in Figure 2, a thematic, philatelic selection is presented, dedicated to traumatology and orthopaedics, their history and a number of heroes, both scientists and practicing doctors, issued in different years, in different countries of the world [9-74]. These are postage stamps, first day postage covers and artistic stamped envelopes, maximum cards, postal blocks, special cancellation postmarks of such countries of the world as the Russian Federation, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Egypt, India, Japan, Philippines, Indonesia, Cuba, Brazil, Germany, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) [11-74]. Further, in Figure 3, a thematic numismatic selection of collectible materials (commemorative table medals and commemorative coins) is presented, from different countries of the world, including the former USSR, and from different years of their issue, made of different metals and/or their alloys, thematically dedicated to orthopaedics and traumatology and a number of practicing doctors, famous in their countries. In most cases, these commemorative medals and coins are presented from both sides-obverse and reverse [75-101].

Figure 3:Thematic numismatic collection dedicated to traumatology and orthopedics and a number of their heroes.

Further, in Figure 4, a small philocartical selection of thematic postcards and poster cards is presented, from different years of their release and dedicated to different events and different people involved in issues of traumatology and orthopaedics [102-115]. This completes another research article, thematically devoted to orthopaedics and traumatology, using screenshot copies of philatelic, philocartical, phaleristic and numismatic collection materials as illustrative material, with their accompaniment, in the text of this article, brief accompanying comments [116-125]. The author is preparing for publication new materials of his research, thematically related to medicine, its history and heroes, in the reflection of various means of collecting.

Conclusions

a) The author of this research article managed to fully disclose the topic of his research, presenting interesting and objective information, both in text and in illustrative terms, in accordance with the topic of his research.
b) The use by the author of this article, as illustrative material, of numerous screenshot copies of collectible philatelic, philocartic, phaleristic and numismatic material, accompanied by brief explanatory comments, significantly improved, supplemented and decorated this research article.
c) The author managed to fully confirm the hypothesis put forward by him at the beginning of this research.
d) In total, this research article presents a total of 143 collection materials screenshot copies: Of which, 72 philatelic; 14 philocartic; 27 phaleristic; 30 numismatic.
