Abstract

This article describes an improved external penile prosthesis, which consists of 80gsm ladder laminated paper strips pasted on medical silicone tape. It is soft and smooth throughout, does not cause foreign body sensation in patients and partners, but can provide strong longitudinal support. Due to its inherent great advantages, it will become a practical choice for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.

Introduction

Currently, most external penile supports and prostheses are rigid. They usually use rigid rods to provide longitudinal support [1,2]. Unfortunately, for most women, these rigid rods can cause vaginal opening pain during intercourse. In addition, they can also cause Foreign Body Sensation (FBS) to patients, making them feel uncomfortable. In fact, it makes the penis feel like it is caught by a pair of chopsticks. In order to improve the overall satisfaction of patients and partners, the author recently proposed a soft external penile prosthesis called an erection band [3], which uses a 300gsm white cardboard strip to provide longitudinal support. It is almost perfect. However, the edges of white cardboard are relatively hard. It forms a small step around the shaft of the penis, which may cause FBS in women when inserted through the vaginal opening. This article introduces an improved version of the erectile band, which consists of 80gsm ladder laminated paper strips pasted on medical silicone tape, as shown in Figure 1a. It is soft and smooth throughout, without hard edges or sharp corners, and its thickness is less than 1mm. However, it can provide strong longitudinal support. Figure 1b shows a 4-layer ladder laminated paper strip. Its layers are glued with double-sided tape only at three points to avoid stiffness, as shown in Figure 1c. Actual tests have shown that it can withstand up to 10kg of weight when rolled up.

The erection band is very convenient to use. Just stick it and wrap it tightly on the shaft of the penis, as shown in Figure 1d, and wear a condom to prevent the strip from getting wet and make the surface smoother. The only problem is that the pubic hair may be stuck. To avoid the trouble caused by pubic hair, it is best to cut it short or shave it off. The erection band is not only suitable for mass production, but also suitable for clinical customization for patients, because it only takes a few minutes to make. The author believes that the improved erection band will become a practical choice for the treatment of erectile dysfunction due to its inherent great advantages.
