Abstract

Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) is a condition that is often challenging to manage and can result in a poor quality of life for the patient. The exact pathophysiology is unknown and multiple factors have been implicated in its etiology. The diagnosis of primary BMS is a diagnosis of exclusion. Clinical features vary widely among the middle-aged female population. Burning is also usually exacerbated by anxiety and fatigue. Women with hormonal disbalances or severe menopause symptoms are greatly affected. There is no targeted treatment for BMS. A multifactorial approach is needed for the holistic health management of patients suffering from this condition complex.
