Farid Menaa is an inter- and multi-disciplinary professional with worldwide reputation. He has three international post-doctoral terms in Oncology, Dermatology, and Hematology; MBA Entrepreneurship and MD candidate. During his ongoing career, he has mainly contributed to the identification and functions of new human disease-causing genes and variants, formulated natural products for anti-aging and developed innovative theranostic strategies against cancers, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity and infectious diseases. He has more than 10 years’ experiences either in the academic, hospitals or industrial sectors. As Chief Scientific Officer and Vice-President R&D at Fluorotronics, Inc. he actively participated in the development of the disruptive “Carbon-Fluorine Spectroscopy”. Dr. Menaa collaborates with various organizations worldwide. Dr. Chhieng is director of Anatomic Pathology and a UW profession of pathology. He is surgical pathologist, with expertise in cytopathology, especially in performing and interpreting fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNA). Dr. Chhieng earned his medical degree from the University of Hong Kong in 1987. He completed his pathology residency training at the Albany Medical Center in Upstate NY in 1996 and fellowships in surgical pathology at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in 1997 and cytopathology at New York University in 1998. He also earned his master degree of business administration and health informatics at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and master degree of engineering management at the University of New Haven. He has served as a faculty member at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he rose to the rank of full professor. He then assumed the position of director of cytology and outreach service at the Yale University. Before his arrival to UW, he was the director of cytology as well as site chair for the 3 clinical laboratories at the Mount Sinai Health System in New York. Dr. Chhieng is a nationally renowned cytopathologist and has been invited to present in numerous national and international conferences. He is a prolific research, publishing 175 refereed articles since 1995. Dr. Chhieng is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Cytopathology, and Clinical Informatics. He is listed in the Best Doctors in America in Birmingham, New Haven, and New York City as well as New York Magazine’s Top Doctors. He currently serves as the president of the Papanicolaou Society of Cytopathology.

Gundu H. R. Rao obtained his B.Sc degree from the University of Mysore and B.Sc (Hons) and M.Sc., degrees from the Poona University. He worked for an year with the Commonwealth Institute of Biological Control, Bangalore and five years at the Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore. He immigrated to the USA in 1965 and specialized in grain storage technology and obtained his Ph.D degree from the Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kansas. After working as a post-doctoral fellow at the Texas A& M University and University of Minnesota, he joined department of Pharmacology as an NIH fellow to get training in toxicology. He has been with the University of Minnesota Medical School for over 40 years. He is a naturalized US citizen and a tenured professor in the department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology. He also has faculty appointments in Anesthesiology, Lillehei Heart Institute, and Biomedical Engineering Institute. He is an author or co-author of over 300 publications in the field of interest (thrombosis and stroke). In the past, he has consulted various medical device development companies in the Twin Cities including 3M, Medtronic Inc, St Jude Medical, Medical CV Inc, Vascular Solutions, APP Tech, Endocardial Solutions, PlaCor Inc., Medical Innovations Inc, Hypertension Diagnostics Inc. and Boston Scientific on problems related to biocompatibility, thrombosis and stroke. He was the visiting Professor in the Department of Surgery and Pharmacology, Kings College, in 1986 and in the Royal College of Surgeons, England in the summer of 1987, and in the Thrombosis Research Institute, London in 1988. He taught one summer at the Institute of Human Physiology, University of Padua, Padua, Italy. He also served as senior consultant to the Government of India, for three successive years (1990-93), under a United Nations program called TOKTEN. He also served as a visiting professor in the Institute of Human Physiology, University of Padua, Italy during 1995-96. He is currently listed as the Senior Fulbright Specialist. He started a society (South Asian Society on Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis, SASAT) to create awareness on vascular diseases in 1993. Since then he is organizing international symposiums on Atherosclerosis and Thrombosis in India, every other year.

Hari Shanker Sharma, Director of Research (International Experimental Central Nervous System Injury & Repair, IECNSIR), University Hospital, Uppsala University is Professor of Neurobiology (MRC), Docent in Neuroanatomy (UU) and is currently affiliated with Department of Surgical Sciences, Division of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, Uppsala University, Sweden. Hari Sharma was born on January 15, 1955 in an Industrialist town Dalmianagar (Bihar), India. He did his Bachelor of Science with Honors from the prestigious L. S. College Muzaffarpur in 1973 and secured 1st position in his batch. He obtained his Master Degree from Bihar University with special expertise in Cell Biology in 1976 and awarded Gold Medal of Bihar University for securing 1st potion in the 1st Class. Hari Sharma joined the group of Professor Prasanta Kumar Dey, a neurophysiologist by training in the Department of Physiology, Institute of Medical; Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi in 1977 to obtain Doctor of Philosophy Degree (D.Phil.) in Neurosciences and was awarded Ph.D. in 1982 on “Blood-Brain Barrier in Stress.” Hari Sharma after carrying out a series of Government of India funded Research Projects on the BBB and brain dysfunction (1982–1987), joined the lab of Neuropathology at Uppsala University with Professor Yngve Olsson in 1988 to investigate passage of tracer transport across the BBB caused by stress or traumatic insults to the Brain and Spinal cord at light and electron microscopy

Dr. Sharma on his research on brain pathology and neuroprotection in different models received the prestigious awards from The Laerdal Foundation of Acute Medicine, Stavanger, Norway, in 2005 followed by Distinguished International Scientists Collaboration Award by National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), Baltimore, MD (2006–2008). His recent work on 5-HT3 receptor mediated neuroprotection in morphine withdrawal induced neurotoxicity won the coveted prize of Best Investigator Award 2008 and Best Scientific Presentation by European Federation of the International Association for Study of Pain (ISAP), and Awarded during their VI Annual Meeting in Lisbon, September 9–12, 2008

Jian-Xin Yu received his PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from Peking University Health Science Center. After completed postdoctoral training at Université Joseph Fourier-Grenoble 1 and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, he then joined the faculty of University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in 2003. He is presently working as a professor at the Center of Translational Medicine in Hubei University of Medicine on molecular medicine. His research focuses on development of diagnostic and therapeutic agents for various diseases, including molecular imaging approaches for better understanding of biology, early diagnosis of disease, monitoring therapy response, and guiding drug discovery/development, as well as new drug design, synthesis and evaluation for disease treatment.
