Abstract
Alcohol was and still continues to be a part and parcel of the social as well as cultural life. The various merits as well as medicinal effects of alcohol or ‘Madya” have been dealt in detail, in the various treatises of Indian medicine. Madya is to be consumed only after considering prakrithi, dosha, desa, kala, bala, satwa and even kula or familial background of the individual for the positive benefits is well explained.
